How to take care of your swimwear so it lasts longer!

Swimsuits are an essential part of vacations, whether you're lounging by the pool or hitting the beach. But with frequent use, exposure to chlorine, saltwater, and sunscreen, your swimsuit can quickly lose its shape and color. To ensure that your swimsuit lasts longer and stays in great condition, it's important to follow proper washing and care techniques. In this blog post, we will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to wash and care for your swimsuit.

Why is it important to wash your swimsuit?

Before we dive into the washing process, let's understand why it's crucial to wash your swimsuit after each use. When you wear a swimsuit, it comes into contact with various substances like sunscreen, sweat, and pool chemicals. If not washed properly, these substances can cause damage to the fabric, leading to discoloration, stretching, and deterioration of elasticity. Even though our fabric is top of the line and is has chlorine and oil protection we encourage our Rhea Tribe to always take care of them and wash them after use so they can last even longer. By extending your swimsuits life cycle you can help reduce waste created by discarded pieces of clothing. The more our clothes last, the less we consume, the less we throw away.

Step 1: Rinse your swimsuit

After each use, rinse your swimsuit with cool tap water. This will help remove any chlorine, saltwater, or chemicals that may be lingering on the fabric. Avoid using hot water as it can damage the fibers of the swimsuit. Move the adjusters around to avoid salt deposits to form.

Step 2: Hand wash with mild detergent

Fill a basin or sink with cool water and add a small amount of mild detergent specifically designed for delicate fabrics. Gently swirl the swimsuit in the soapy water for a few minutes, ensuring that the detergent reaches every part of the fabric. Avoid scrubbing or wringing the swimsuit, as this can cause damage.

Step 3: Rinse thoroughly

Once you've finished hand washing, drain the soapy water and refill the basin with clean, cool water. Rinse the swimsuit thoroughly to remove any remaining detergent. Repeat this step until the water runs clear, indicating that all the detergent has been removed.

Step 4: Gently squeeze out excess water

After rinsing, gently squeeze the swimsuit to remove excess water. Avoid twisting or wringing the fabric, as this can stretch and damage the swimsuit. Instead, press the swimsuit against the side of the basin or sink to remove as much water as possible.

Step 5: Lay flat to dry

Once you've removed the excess water, lay the swimsuit flat on a clean towel or drying rack to air dry. Avoid hanging the swimsuit, as this can cause it to stretch and lose its shape. Direct sunlight can also fade the colors, so it's best to dry the swimsuit in a shaded area.

Additional tips for swimsuit care:

- Avoid using bleach or harsh detergents, as they can damage the fabric and fade the colors.

- Do not iron or tumble dry your swimsuit, as heat can cause the fabric to shrink or warp.

- Avoid sitting on rough surfaces while wearing your swimsuit, as they can cause snags or tears.

- Alternate between multiple swimsuits to give each one time to recover and regain its shape.

By following these simple steps and tips, you can ensure that your swimsuit stays in great condition and lasts longer. Proper washing and care will help preserve the color, shape, and elasticity of your swimsuit, allowing you to enjoy many more summers in style!
